College of Physicians and Surgeons, Mumbai (CPS), as the motto says, has indeed been spreading medical education since 1912. It was visionary movement started by giant thinkers such as Surgeon-General H.W. Stevenson and the likes which gave birth to this institute and it has churned out brilliant doctors since then. This institute is unique in many ways such as, it’s exactly on the lines of the Royal Colleges of England, acting solely as a examining body, handing out fellowships and diplomas to candidates successful in their respective post-graduate exam. Most of these qualified doctors cater to rural part of the country, aiding in healthcare reaching to the masses in the hinterland of India. This over the last century has significantly reduced maternal and child mortality/morbidity. Acknowledging the significance of CPS, the college has in the last couple of years been able to establish itself in other states of the country too. Royal Colleges of the United Kingdom, specifically the Royal College of Physicians and the Royal College of Anaesthetists, London, have reviewed and renewed their older ties with CPS and are looking for further academic association and accreditation between them. Given all these accolades I am sure CPS will continue to spread medical education nationally and internationally for eons to come.
